Your Military Healthcare Plan

TRICARE brings together the healthcare resources of the military and supplements them with networks of civilian providers. This partnership provides patients better access and high quality service, while still maintaining the capability to support military readiness. TRICARE consists of three options: Prime, Extra, and Standard. Prime provides the most advantages to those who choose to enroll.

TRICARE Prime enrollment at Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) offers enrollees:

Access to care in accordance with TRICARE guidelines
Priority treatment in military treatment facilities (MTFs)
Lower medical costs
Continuity of care
One-stop shopping for all healthcare needs

Enrolling in Prime at WHMC

Please contact the TRICARE Service Center, first floor of WHMC, room 1E50, for an application or call (800) 444-5445 and one will be mailed to you. Active duty may use the active duty member's enrollment form, which should be turned into the TRICARE Service Center or at Medical Right Start. The family member application is not available on this Web site and must be requested from TRICARE.

Medical Right Start

All incoming permanent party active duty members will attend Base Right when they in-process through the Military Personnel Flight. This briefing is for active duty members and their spouses. Contact the Family Readiness Flight for information on help with childcare for newly arrived families.

This is an important briefing where both the active duty member and their families complete the necessary paperwork for enrollment in TRICARE Prime, have an opportunity to learn all about accessing care within WHMC, and find out about the many programs and service we offer. A representative from the Customer Relations Office will personally welcome you and your family to the facility. For additional information, please call 292-7848.

Operation Command Champion

All new commanders to Lackland Air Force Base are required to call 292-5934/7574 and schedule an individual briefing with our Customer Relations Representative or Marketing Director. During this briefing, you will be provided with information to assist you as both a commander and individual active duty member on all aspects of the military healthcare system. A Commander’s Tool Kit will be provided that is loaded with useful resource points of contact and an in-depth guide to services and programs available at WHMC.
